The Wrong End of the 66th Precinct?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

A few neighbors have been complaining about the lack of enforcement of parking regulations on the Kensington side of Coney Island Avenue, and are starting to wonder if it might be due to us being the far eastern border. We’ll contact the precinct to follow up, but here is a summary, as one of them puts it:

The auto shops between Cortelyou and Avenue C continually park and repair cars on the sidewalk.  The meters are always broken and filled with unlicensed and unregistered cars.  The No Standing zone outside of 740 CIA near Cortelyou is filled every afternoon and often with double and triple parked cars.  All this creates a traffic nightmare and presents a danger to pedestrians, many of them seniors, trying to get to the supermarket. Police efforts in response to earlier complaints have been non-existent.  Does any of this have to do with the fact that we are at the wrong end of the 66 precinct?

The 66th doesn’t enforce anything down here. We’re lawless, like the high seas.

Anyone ever seen a patrol car or a cop on foot in our area? Any time?

I agree with the commenters and the post. I’ve lived on E7 bet Cortelyou and Ditmas and have rarely seen cops except for the school police. I never drive CIA to Cortelyou if I’m going south. . .

CIA is the wild, wild west. No enforcement whatsoever. And another thing! (Imagine an index finger held high, wagging with indignation.) I’m tired of moving my car side to side when the streetsweepers never pay a visit to Slocum Place. I can’t imagine the snow clearing situation in the winter…this will be my first winter in DP, so I guess I’ll find out soon enough!

As a follow-up to above post, 66th Precinct Deputy Inspector John Sprague said last night that the precinct has since checked out 740 CIA. A confirming email from someone there says it “towed 3 vehicles and issued approx 11 summ in the area.”
