this bickering is foolish. all it does is create divisiveness. people are making presumptions. nothing remains the same, and if we want our "fair share of the pie" we need to be proactive. kensington will never be park slope, it will always be kensington. those of us who live and work and care about kensington need to be ensure that kensington is treated fairly.

Then Monica, move somewhere else or start building yourself. It's one thing to complain, it's another thing to do somethng about it.

P.S. I've been here my entire life. I know what's here and what isn't. I'm not complaining about what's here. I'm complaining about ppl like you, who want to turn Kensington into Park Slope.

Get a life!

Maybe we spend a lot of time doing other community things, littledebbiet, and can't address every single issue but are entitled to post our opinions since that's what neighborhood blogs are about, no? And, real estate owners are not greedy ... really? The "community garden" couldn't be open to all more hours?

It can be a nice way for people to gather with their neighbors on the street but the setting could do with some improvement. Often in the parks people get splintered from knowing the other people they are inhabiting the space with...

Kids should be able to play on or near their own block and be safe- have a place to play besides in the street.
It is so sad down by where that picture was taken on the west end of Church. Lots of kids and elderly hanging out. UGLY area, LOTS of potential. Since the city is giving all that space to developers they should by one of the lots around here for a park.

I'm sure there are more empty spaces that could be transformed. This part of Kensington really could use some nice green space! Maybe the posters above could contact the owners and revamp the spaces to make them kid and community friendly. Or offer their time so the community garden can open for more hours. Or offer your time at a kids community center.

Or you can just post comments on this board accusing real estate owners of being greedy. Or complain about the community gardens that your neighbors spend countless hours fixing up and sharing.

Or pointing fingers at parents for not taking their kids to Prospect Park more frequently (even though the kids may be perfectly safe and happy to dance and play with their friends on the block).

Sort of funny. (Tho' not... and totally agree with your point.) However, I think it's nice when people create spaces - sometimes that's better. The Community Garden on E. 4th - lovely space but should only people who are members get to utilize it? It's rarely open and seems so 'governed' by rules.

Second thought: You know that lot at McDonald & Ft Hamilton Parkway that's been for sale forever? - it's just an empty space which I gather was used for cars or I'm not sure what as an adjacent space to the house next door ... - it'd be so great if that was donated as public space for the neighborhood or bought at reduced cost by the city. Now, knowing a small amount of the back story to that space, I don't think that's going to happen. (Too much greed involved in real estate and not enough benevolence.) Same with the vacant lot at Caton and E. 5th. I understand a gorgeous home used to be on that entire property(if you could find a picture of it and juxtapose the two, that would be interesting...). It was torn down to make condos and then the financing fell through! I'm sure there are more like that...

I don't understand why parents don't bring their children to safe places to play, like prospect park, for example.

I just walked past this "park" bench. It is full of people watching all the kids across the street dancing on the sidwalk. We need a park!
