Coney Island Avenue still a mess

Monday, March 28th, 2011

So we have word that the 66th is on it, but from what was obvious this weekend, old habits seem to be hard to break. In the image above, taken around 3:30pm on Saturday, on CIA between Cortelyou and C-Town:

- You can see a line of cars parked perpendicular to street on the sidewalk blocking pedestrian access

- You can see a line of parked cars, cars basically parked in the middle of the street, cars backing up  in the driving lane, reducing CIA to a one lane road southbound, and causing traffic delays all the way to Beverley Road, cars u-turning to go down Slocum to Westminster to bypass the mess.

Really, is there nothing that can be done to make these businesses be a bit more accommodating to the rest of us – folks who live along CIA on this stretch? The ones who have to risk their lives and those of their kids by having to sverve into traffic to bypass illegally parked cars so they can buy some groceries??

Please email us the pictures and report blocked street and sidewalk to 311. (can do so electronically here). We’ll just keep posting until something changes.

selective enforcement. I got a pretty fat ticket for blocking a sidewalk in industrial red hook while loading a truck. I went to see the judge, and the judge spoke – any building can’t be blocked because its all sidewalk in front of a building, even when there is no physical sidewalk. Really, thats what he said. Fine paid.

the 66 Pct and DI Sptague don’t give a damn. We are on the wrong end of the Pct. These complaints have been made regularily for years and the result – the problem is worse than ever. No enforcement of parking rules. unlicensed, unregistered vehicles at expired meters. Cars being repaired on the sidewalk. Parking in NO Standing zones – Double parking in No Standing zones. They do not care at the CB or the Pct.
