“Pharmacy” with a lot to offer

There is a sign that says “Pharmacy” over a storefront on Coney Island Ave, between 18th and Newkirk Aves. I urge you to go in anyway, even if you use Walgreen’s or CVS, because it’s so much more than that.
For a medium-sized store, they have a large assortment of Southeast Asian spices and delicacies – pink tea, bags of basmati rice, tamarind syrup, frozen naan, ghee, mustard oil, and chickpea flour, to name a few. They also have a wide variety of toiletries from that region, including neem toothpaste and Jamila henna, which will cost you much more at mehandi.com.
I had no idea that Knorr’s made flavor packets for anything beyond noodles and rice, but I was surprised to find a variety of them here, at $1 each. The directions were a bit vague at times, but our biryani was decent.
Even if you’re not a big fan of Southeast Asian food, they have plenty of items any Westerner could appreciate – high quality bagged spices (you get so much more than if it was in a jar), 10 lb bags of whole wheat for $13, and fruit jams made with real sugar. Best of all, their prices are extremely competitive. It seems to be a well-kept secret in this area, so let’s not tell anyone.
949 Coney Island Ave, between 18th and Newkirk Aves. Open from 10 am – 7 pm.
