Sean Casey Needs Donations

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

How can we help the Sean Casey Animal Rescue get the money they need to finish their second, much bigger Sunset Park shelter? Last year, in the space on East 3rd Street, SCAR managed to find homes for more than 2,000 cats and dogs. With more space, they’d save more pets. The Daily News sums it up:

The 5,000-square-foot space would provide roomier runs for the dogs and multi-level condos for cats.

“We could save another 2,500 animals a year,” he said.

But a struggling economy and various glitches have crippled the construction project halfway through.

He said the shelter was slated to get a free makeover by Discovery Channel’s “Construction Intervention” show, but that dream died when the show was canceled.

A successful benefit held this week raised $15,000, but Casey needs additional funds to complete the estimated $200,000 project.

If you’d like to help, they accept donations on their website, but let us know if you’ve got bigger ideas about how we can get them some funds!
